Understanding Winning Archery

Al Henderson

114pp. US Olympic archery coach and international shooting consultant discusses his philosophy  on the mental and psychological aspects of shooting. Good read for those wanting to understand the mind-game.

Murray

The Simple Art of Winning

Rick McKinney

The many-times Olympic and World archery champion discusses everything from technique to mind control, from exercises to handling the pressures of competition. Rick leaves nothing out.

Murray / Hazel (2 copies)

Archery Shot Execution: A Total Muscle Control Approach

Larry Skinner

“presents an approach to shot execution that will provide you with the tools to improve your performance regardless of whether you shoot a recurve or compound bow”… allegedly. The concepts are a little vague, and he talks a lot about focussing on specific muscles… but interesting nevertheless.

Murray

Precision Archery

Steve Ruis & Claudia Stevenson

Covers most of the popular areas to do with Target & Field Archery. Written with input from top archers Don Rabska, Rick McKinney and Larry Wise. Chapters covering Coaching and Technique, Tuning both Recurve and Compound, and the Mind Game. I found it a bit of a mish mash, but certainly some useful ideas are presented.

Murray

Archery Anatomy

Ray Axford

The archer/anatomists bible. Discusses, in detail, why we use the shooting forms we use, and all the pros and cons of differing body types. Very technical, but very interesting.

Hazel

Native American Bows, Arrows & Quivers

Steve Allely & Jim Hamm

Pen & Ink Drawings of Archery Eqiupment from Mohecan, Mohawk, Cherokee, Seminole Chippewa and Winnebago tribes.

Hazel

The Archer’s Craft

Adrian Eliot Hodkin

From 1951, descriptions on how to make longbows, arrows and other archer’s tackle.

Hazel

Archery – steps to success

Kathleen Haywood & Catherine Lewis

Excellent beginner’s guide

Balbardie

Teaching Archery

A useful guide for would-be coaches, especially for those who’s students have read the book above.
